The town where I live Yokosuka

The town where I live  Yokosuka-city has deep relationship with America historically. Edo period (1603-1868) , Japan was closed long time but an East India fleet admiral in U.S navy Matthew C. PERRY arrived to Uraga harbor with 4 warships in Yokosuka and demanded to open country to Tokugawa shogunate in 1853. This case was called Perry Expedition that one of trigger to end of Edo period and starting to new era. And next year 1854, he came to Japan with 7 warships off the coast of Yokohama again, he was signed with Tokugawa shogunate as we say  "Treaty of Kanagawa". The treaty's formal name is "Convention of Peace and Amity between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan".

6 years later from  Treaty of Kanagawa, the U.S Mission has been dispatched to the United States by Tokugawa shogunate to exchange ratification documents for The Japan-U.S Amity Treaty . The U.S. Mission members boarded on The USS Pawhatan off Shinagawa harbor, in case of an accident  ,the warship magistrate Tadanori Mizuno attached The Kanrinmaru as an escote ship. And this ship  leaved from Uraga harbor. In some of the crew  included  famous person historically , Kaishu Katsu, Yukichi Fukuzawa, etc, who were center of person in after Meiji Restoration,

By the way, these pictures are took in the Verny park near the U.S navy base in Yokosuka. Mr.Verny who became name of park  was French navy engineer who contributed modernization of Japan. He constructed Yokosuka Armory,Yokosuka Navy Facility Dock, lighthouse, etc , he taught how to construct them to Japanese. This park is on the opposite bank of the Yokosuka Navy Facility Dock. In left side, there is  also the base of JMSDF( Japan Maritime Self Defense Forces).

Sometimes you can watch U.S navy warships or submarines berthing. It's rare to be able to watch 4 submarines. Off course I don't like war or weapons , apart from that, I  liked warships, fighters, tank since we were boy. When I was a kid, I was absorbed plastic model of military series. Especially popular series were U.S army tank series and Japan navy warship. No way I didn't think to  live near place like this viewing.
Yokosuka is very nice town and I prefer very much. But now Don't Come here. Please stay at home now. You must become so happier to come our lovely town after coronavirus mess will be to end.
